One of my new year’s resolutions, as I am sure it is for many others too, is to be more organized – in my daily life and in my home. Since I am sure this is a common resolution, I thought I would share with you some tips I am implementing in our home as well as the three things that can help you get organized.
The first thing that I think everyone needs is a good planner. I am the type of person that needs to write EVERYTHING down to remember it: appointments, dinner plans, reminders, birthdays, grocery lists, etc. Just trying to keep things straight in my head does not work well for me, which I am sure is the case for most people. So, a good planner it is. I have used the Erin Condren LifePlanner for the past five years. I LOVE it and I adore all the designs they are available in. I love that you can personalize it and really make it your own. I know these seem a bit pricey, so if you aren’t wanting to spend that much on a planner, I also really love this one and think it’s super cute!
I don’t tend to hold on to a lot of things and I declutter my house often, which I think is really important in staying organized. I only like to keep what I need in the house. If you are not as good with getting rid of things, I would highly recommend you read the book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It is an amazing book that will guide you in decluttering and organizing your home. And even if you think you don’t need help decluttering, the book is still so inspirational and full of tips. The way they tell you to fold the clothes in your drawers rocked my world!
Finally, it is very important to me that everything in my house have a home. I want a place for everything and everything in it’s place. I know this is so unrealistic to expect this at all times because… kids! But, one of the ways I have found that helps me with this is STORAGE, STORAGE, STORAGE! I love storage bins for toys, shoes, accessories, important papers, blankets, etc. So, below are a few of my favorite storage bins we have in our home.
I use this one to hold our throw blankets in our living room:
I use this one to hold all our important papers in our kitchen:
This basket holds Willa’s knick knacks in our playroom:
I have two of these baskets in our entertainment center, one for magazines and one for tv/video game accessories:
I love this little basket and it is probably my favorite. I keep it in the girls’ bathroom to hold hair accessories:
I keep all of Poppy’s toys in this basket in our living room:
I hope this is inspirational for you if you too have an appreciation for organization! If you happen to get the book, or already own it, let me know what you think!
