This past week we have been at the beach with the girls and my parents. We go to New Smyrna Beach, Florida every year – a tradition started by my family when I was a wee little thing. It is such a nice area with beautiful beaches that isn’t crowded. We were really afraid we were going to have to cancel our trip due to Hurricane Irma that hit last week; thankfully, we were still able to go and saw very little damage. We even found some beautiful, GIGANTIC shells on our trip that washed up from that storm.
It was such a fun, laid back vacation and time that Billy and I really needed as a family. It’s a little bit different for us because Billy is self employed and works from our home, as do I, so we are always together all day, every day. So, it’s a really nice change for us to spend time together in a different environment.
We slept in every morning, had a glorious breakfast prepared for us by my parents and our family friends who were right next door, we swam, played on the beach, napped, played some more, and then went out to eat. We did this every single day. We also went to our favorite walk up ice cream shop a few times, hunted down salt water taffy, and had a Connect Four tournament. Another tradition I always enjoyed as a child and started with Willa on her very first beach trip is picking out a new shirt from the souvenir shop to wear home. So, we all got shirts along with some other tacky keepsakes that we couldn’t live without.
It was such a great way for our family to officially kiss summer goodbye. Now we are all so happy for fall and all the fun things that are to come. I absolutely LOVE this season and am so excited to savor it with my sweet family.
