This year absolutely flew by and I cannot believe Poppy is one! This has been the best year and she has brought so much joy to our lives so I couldn’t wait to celebrate this little girl!
In the past, I have been known for going a little overboard on parties for Willa. I love party planning and really enjoy seeing a good theme come together. However, last year Willa requested a bounce house party and Poppy was only two months old, so I bowed out and it was then that I realized that a big party with perfect decorations and an elaborate cake does not make my girls any more happy than a simple party with the people they care about most. Plus, it is a lot less stressful for me! So, I decided to really scale it back, especially for Poppy’s first birthday since she is so little. I still wanted to make it special though!
We decided we would throw just a quaint little family party with grandparents and cousins to celebrate our special girl. I had Billy make invites to send out because I still wanted her to have a keepsake when she is older. I have saved all Willa’s party invites and intend to do it with Poppy, too! He made the cutest little invites for our Poppy-sicle! And I found THE MOST adorable popsicle romper!
I bought a bunch of water toys on clearance at Target and so I was bummed when it started drizzling. But, what did we do? Threw on the kids’ suits and played outside anyway! Poppy loved playing with bubbles and watching the big kids do the slip-n-slide!
Poppy loved her cake and all her presents. So, did her sister! Anyone else’s kids gravitate towards the baby toys even though they are completely not age appropriate??
We had a laid back afternoon and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Precious memories were made, so I can call this first birthday a complete success.
Don’t come at me too fast, birthday number 2!
